If you’re looking for a Christmassy snack to serve to your guests, try these healthy sausage rolls – sausage meat wrapped in a homemade Greek yogurt bread dough, baked until golden. Adding a thin layer of tomato chutney to the rolls before baking brings a hint of acidity and sweetness which makes them so addictive!

Ingredients

14 Persons

DOUGH:

  • 180 g
    0% fat greek yogurt
  • 135 g
    self raising white flour
  • 0.25 tsp
    salt

FILLING:

  • 300 g
    reduced fat pork sausages
  • 0.5
    red onion, finely diced
  • 0.5 tbsp
    chopped rosemary
  • 4 tbsp
    tomato chutney

TOPPING:

  • 2 tbsp
    sesame seeds
  • 1
    egg, beaten

Preparation

  • 1

Combine the yogurt with the flour and salt in a medium bowl. Knead in the bowl to get a soft dough. Chill for 30 minutes as you make the filling.

  • 2

Cut the sausages out of their casings and squeeze into a medium bowl. Add the onion and rosemary then mix together. Chill until needed.

  • 3

Preheat the oven to 180C and line a baking tray with baking paper.

  • 4

Roll the chilled dough out on a worktop dusted with flour, dusting with more flour on top to prevent it sticking. Roll into a rectangle around 50 x 20 cm. Spread the chutney down the middle of the rectangle. Form the sausage meat into a log the length of the dough and place on top of the chutney. Fold the dough over to cover the meat and press the edges together to seal.

  • 5

Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with the sesame seeds. Slice into 14 pieces and place onto the lined baking tray, spacing each roll a few centimetres apart.

  • 6

Bake for 25-30 minutes, until golden and the sausage meat is cooked through. Serve warm.
